Our definition of healing is to enter with mercy and awareness that which we have held back from in judgment and fear and anger.

Leonard Cohen - Come Healing Lyrics

Behold the gates of mercy
In arbitrary space
And none of us deserving
Of cruelty or the grace

O, gather up the brokenness
Bring it to me now
The fragrance of those promises
You never dared to vow

The splinters that you carried
The cross you left behind
Come healing of the body
Come healing of the mind

And let the heavens hear it
The penitential hymn
Come healing of the spirit
Come healing of the limb

O, solitude of longing
Where love has been confined
Come healing of the body
Come healing of the mind

O, see the darkness yielding
That tore the light apart
Come healing of the reason
Come healing of the heart

O, troubledness concealing
An undivided love
The heart beneath is teaching
To the broken heart above

And let the heavens falter
Let the earth proclaim
Come healing of the altar
Come healing of the name

O, longing of the branches
To lift the little bud
O, longing of the arteries
To purify the blood

And let the heavens hear it
The penitential hymn
Come healing of the spirit
Come healing of the limb

An Opening

"A person

is not a thing or a process,

but an opening

through which the absolute manifests."

-- Martin Heidegger

It's wonder.

And then sit in the spray of a waterfall and watch the water that's always coming and always going and always here. It's wonder. It's awe.
(paraphrased from as interview with Jane Goodall)

Growing organic foods, in natural, contemplative living communities, will offer people healing, contentment, compassionate aloha, and the renewal of creativity.

Her voice sounds like a crystal bowl ringing out a call to breathe,
to pay attention,
to really see,
and to act wisely on what we see.
A daily gardening routine can be truly therapeutic and relaxing.
The human body quickly begins to feel connected with the earth.
Fears or anxieties can be wiped clean simply by taking care of the mother earth.

The aim of Mayumi’s life has a more expansive and long-range target.
Mayumi’s art extends to the geo-political arena
where she also works as a global activist, participating in anti-nuclear campaigns worldwide.
In 1992, she founded Plutonium Free Future to help prevent nuclear disaster.

The full circle of life produces healthy children, clean water, safe food and homes that are protected, and far away from the nuclear industry and its bed-partner, the weapons industry.
She co-founded a non-profit group called INOCHI, which is Japanese for “life force"
and another group called United Earth,
a network of Japanese and overseas contacts doing direct aid in areas affected by disasters.
Now, 66 years after being bombed in Japan,
Mayumi shares that healing experience with others,
waking up a new generation with the power of her voice,
the beauty of her vision,
and the strength of her hands.
Every open heart who hears the ring of truth from the woman who sees and paints goddesses
can aim toward the same target:
a sane, healthy, loving planet.

You can help the Morokino project or United Earth.
Donate now by sending checks made out to INOCHI and mail them to Mayumi Oda, Ginger Hill Farm, P.O. Box 1907, Kealakekua, HI 96750.

Fill your moments!

Fill your moments with action, and there will be little time left for worry.

Fill your moments with meaning, and there will be little time left for despair.

Fill your days with discovery, and you will fill your life with valuable knowledge.

Fill your hours with caring, compassion and respect, and you will fill your world with love and friendship.

Fill your thoughts with positive possibilities, and the best things in life will surely be within your reach.

Fill your words with encouragement and enthusiasm, and you'll often find people and circumstances lining up in your favor.

Fill your efforts with purpose, persistence, diligence and integrity, and your life will be filled with valuable achievements.

Fill your heart with a love of truth and goodness, and your soul will be filled with the treasure of wisdom.

Your life is a most precious gift. Fill every corner of it with the best that you can.

-- Ralph Marston

hope for creative living

"Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power.

We have guided missiles and misguided men.

Our hope for creative living lies in our ability to reestablish the spiritual needs of our lives in personal character and social justice.

Without this spiritual and moral reawakening we shall destroy ourselves in the misuse of our own instruments."

--Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

Motivation is like bathing :)

"People often say that motivation doesn't last.
Well, neither does bathing -
that's why we recommended it daily."

trust your heart if the seas catch fire

dive for dreams
or a slogan may topple you
(trees are their roots
and wind is wind)
trust your heart
if the seas catch fire
(and live by love
though the stars walk backward)
honour the past
but welcome the future
(and dance your death
away at the wedding)
never mind a world
with its villains or heroes
(for good likes girls
and tomorrow and the earth)
in spite of everything
which breathes and moves, since Doom
(with white longest hands
neating each crease)
will smooth entirely our minds
-before leaving my room
i turn, and (stooping
through the morning) kiss
this pillow, dear
where our heads lived and were

Love from Dr. Seuss

“You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.”

~ Dr Seuss (1904-1991), American writer & cartoonist [Theodor Seuss Geiseler],

As quoted in "Somewhere in the Middle of Love" (2007) by Lisa A. Lipscomb, p. 31

Gazing into an abyss.

"And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."

"Und wenn du lange in einen Abgrund blickst, blickt der Abgrund auch in dich hinein."

Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche, German philosopher (1844 - 1900)

Section 146 of Nietzsche's "Beyond Good and Evil," in the section entitled "Epigrams and Interludes".

The second half of the quote is an extension of the first, warning that when you seek to understand the "abyss," or the darker elements of life or truth, the abyss enters you as well.

The lover of knowledge cannot remain merely an observer. In observing the abyss, or "dangerous truths," you cannot avoid the consequences of this newfound knowledge.

less and less to say

"As my prayers became more attentive and inward I had less and less to say.

I finally became completely silent.

I started to listen - which is even further removed from speaking.

I first thought that prayer entailed speaking. I then learnt that prayer is hearing, not merely being silent.

That is how it is.

To pray does not mean to listen to oneself speaking. Prayer involves becoming silent, and being silent, and waiting until God is heard."

Soren Kierkegaard

Creative Imagination

"I can't believe that!" said Alice.

"Can't you?" the queen said in a pitying tone. "Try again, draw a long breath, and shut your eyes."

Alice laughed. "There's no use trying," she said. "One can't believe impossible things."

"I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."

From "Alice in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll

A little something from Wordsworth

"I have felt a presence that disturbs me with the joy of elevated thoughts;
a sense sublime of something far more deeply interfused,
whose dwelling is the light of setting suns,
and the round ocean and the living air,
and the blue sky, and in the mind of man;
emotion and a spirit, that impels all thinking things,
all objects of all thought,
and rolls through all things."

William Wordsworth

Time is priceless.

Time is priceless, yet it costs us nothing.

You can do anything you want with it, but you can’t own it.

You can spend it, but you can’t keep it.

And once you’ve lost it, there’s no getting it back.

Allison DuBois from the TV show "MEDIUM"

Optical Delusion

"A human being is part of the whole called by us the Universe.

We experiences ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest...

a kind of optical delusion of consciousness.

This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us.

Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures,

and the whole of nature in all of its beauty...."

-- Albert Einstein

Eskimo Teachings

The inhabitant or soul of the universe is never seen.
Its voice alone is heard.
It is a gentle voice.
A voice so fine that even children cannot become afraid.
And what is says is "Sila ersinarsinivdluge."
"Be not afraid of the universe."

The Elements of Style: The Movie

The Elements of Style: The Movie
Maira Kalman, the New York-based artist has created a movie based on "The Elements of Style," the classic primer on writing by William Strunk Jr. and E.B. White. (Mr. White wrote Charlotte's Web)
Here are some quotes that caught my imagination:

Who can say what ignites a certain combination of words allowing them to explode in the mind.

Like notes arranged in music, words stir the listener deeply.

Creative writing - Communication through revelation, the self escaping into the open.

Leave solid ground.

Steering by stars that are constantly in motion.

Style - his sound, the sound the words make on paper, reveals his spirit, his habits, his capacity, his bias. This is inevitable and enjoyable.

Use words that are poetical and sensuous - the secret sounds of beauty.

Style in the sense of what is distinguished and distinguishing.

Style is non detachable.

Writers face themselves.

Remove barriers that separate you from other minds and other hearts.

Admire what is good, than when you write in a way that comes naturally, you will echo what bears repeating.

Bonds of Power, by Joseph Chilton Pierce

Joseph Chilton Pierce is one of my favorite authors. As many know, I am very fond of reading. I always take notes when I read and here are some notes from Bonds of Power.

Correct the course, not the error. Shift from error correction to course alignment.

Personality is the ultimate creation, the sum total of awareness.

The creation and separation of a unique personality out of this unity of awareness is the developmental way to create a creator.

When the Pawn reaches the opposite King's row, it becomes Queen and can then move anywhere, in any direction. The ability to perceive and create on any and all levels of consciousness.

Reversibility Thinking - the ability of insight intelligence to trace thoughts back to its source.

If our keys are not unlocking a quality of life in harmony and creation - we should switch keys.

Capacity to relax and recognize one's own desires, thoughts and intentions arising from within and feeling good.

The first step toward freedom is to see it as the ability to create, not the absence of being controlled.

Kundalini, our dominant creative energy, offers no handles for social control or scientific analysis.

Matter manifests through the interweaving of different energy vibrations.

The creative system as a holographic movement, a single unit, a gestalt, an impulse or state which cannot be divided in any way, but can be represented in an infinite number of ways.

All time is enfolded in any second.
All matter is enfolded within any bit of matter.
All consciousness is enfolded within any single mind/brain.
All conceivable space is enfolded within any particle of space.

Thought (man), consciousness (bonding power, connecting force, energy, Shakti, Holy Spirit), and insight (God) form a trinity.

Autonomy is not a state, but the ability to create a state.

A thing's name is its numen, its imaginative reality in the eternal world of the human mind.
