The Elements of Style: The Movie

The Elements of Style: The Movie
Maira Kalman, the New York-based artist has created a movie based on "The Elements of Style," the classic primer on writing by William Strunk Jr. and E.B. White. (Mr. White wrote Charlotte's Web)
Here are some quotes that caught my imagination:

Who can say what ignites a certain combination of words allowing them to explode in the mind.

Like notes arranged in music, words stir the listener deeply.

Creative writing - Communication through revelation, the self escaping into the open.

Leave solid ground.

Steering by stars that are constantly in motion.

Style - his sound, the sound the words make on paper, reveals his spirit, his habits, his capacity, his bias. This is inevitable and enjoyable.

Use words that are poetical and sensuous - the secret sounds of beauty.

Style in the sense of what is distinguished and distinguishing.

Style is non detachable.

Writers face themselves.

Remove barriers that separate you from other minds and other hearts.

Admire what is good, than when you write in a way that comes naturally, you will echo what bears repeating.
