Effective Organizations

Please click through to the following link for more resources on creating effective organizations at this website address: http://forestpolicy.typepad.com/am/effective_organizations.html

To be effective long term, human organizations must be based on good principles, focused on appropriate purposes, environmentally fit, and adaptive.

This is no easy challenge, in part because many organizations are legacies of the past, based on bad or out-of-date principles, focused on wrong purposes, and neither environmentally fit nor adaptive.

An effective organization:
•is focused in its mission;
•allows its people to take risks and occasionally fail ("empowerment"'s more important flipside);
•is "flat"; it allows information to flow in both directions, usually through a lack of hierarchy;
•provides opportunities for advancement through initiative;
•has flexible rules and incentives;
•recognizes both teams and individuals for their accomplishments;

As we ponder what we might do differently we need to remember four rules:

Start where you are.

Use what you have (and what you can readily get your hands on).

Do what you can.

Pause to reflect and learn from your mistakes, from the mistakes of others, and from things/ideas/practices that work.

Additional Operational Rule(s):
•Reuse, Renew, Recycle

Great illustration of the craft of thoughtful visual and structured thinking.

There are two versions with different colours: a US and a World version. This is because the US and Switzerland are the only countries in the world where red = right wing and blue = left wing.

Aries New Moon Treasure Mapping

Peggy Malnati writes in her blog, WalkSoftly2’s Blog, Commentary & Tools for Life’s Journey

"I read a really interesting astrology write-up last evening, March 26, 2009, by Tracy Cook. It was about today’s Aries New Moon — an event that occurs once a year when both the Sun and Moon are conjunct (in the same degree of the same sign at the same time) in Aries.

Many astrologers and metaphysicians consider that the true start of the new year — at least in a zodiacal sense — occurs not on 1 January when the Gregorian calendar changes, and not when the vernal equinox occurs (on or about 20/21 March), but when the Aries New Moon falls.

Anyway, the gist of Ms. Cook’s message was that each year the Aries New Moon is the perfect time to make a treasure map of what you want to manifest in your life in the coming 3-12 months. This is because the Aries New Moon is the start of the new zodiacal year and Aries rules (among other things) new beginnings and sight, so it becomes the perfect time for you to envision and out-picture what you want your life to look and feel like. (Any New Moon is great for doing something similar for the next 28-day Moon cycle.)..."

Tracy Cook at Tracy's Astro Salon
A cozy spot in cyberspace where we talk astrology.

"They are made on Aries new moon, because that is the first sign of the zodiac. Aries is when you plant your seeds. It is the real beginning of the New Year. It should not be confused with the first day of spring, which is usually on March 19 or March 20. New moon means the sun and moon are in the same degree. For those who don't know much about astrology (which is totally okay) Aries is the sign of SIGHT. So, that's why it is so important to have pictures of what you want. You need to visualize it. Or if you don't do photos/pictures.. Put up words. It is just important for you to SEE THEM.

Art of the Possible

I wanted to share a wonderful quote from a book by poet and activist, Adrienne Rich, Art of the Possible. (p.109)

In 1987 the late Supreme Court Justice William Brennan said that "formal reason severed from the insights of passion is a major threat to due-process principles. Due process asks whether government has treated someone fairly, whether individual dignity has been honored, whether the worth of an individual has been acknowledged. Officials can not always silence these questions by pointing to rational action taken according to standard rules. They must plumb their conduct more deeply, seeking answers in more complex equations of human nature and experience."

The Greatest Discovery

"The greatest discovery of the 19th century was not in the realm of the physical sciences, but the power of the subconscious mind touched by faith. Any individual can tap into an eternal reservoir of power that will enable them to overcome any problem that may arise. All weaknesses can be overcome, bodily healing, financial independence, spiritual awakening, and prosperity beyond your wildest dreams. This is the superstructure of happiness."

The pursuit of gratitude!

Mollyanna on Gratitude

When we plunge into gratitude there is no need to aspire to anything greater, because gratitude is gratitude.

And we can be in this state immediately without any equipment but a willing heart and perhaps a nudge from this Flower Essence mix: Gratitude, the new Venus Garden combination mix, that can show us the way to this state of being.

In addition to what Pollyanna would say, the truth is that gratitude is alchemy at its most miraculous.

It's Not What You Say, It's What People Hear

In Words that Work: It's Not What You Say, It's What People Hear, marketing expert, Frank Luntz (please note - I do not agree with his politics or his ethics) offers insights into finding and using the right words to achieve your goals.

The key to communication is to place yourself in the listener's situation and understand his or her deepest thoughts and beliefs. What the listener perceives constitutes the listener's reality.

Based on his experience as a political and corporate pollster he recommends 11 rules for effective communication:
1. Use small words.
2. Use short sentences.
3. Credibility is as important as philosophy.
4. Consistency matters.
5. Novelty: offer something new.
6. Sound and texture matter.
7. Speak aspirationally.
8. Visualize.
9. Ask a question.
10. Provide context and explain relevance.
11. Visual imagery matters.

Luntz does not stop there.
He adds:
1. Never assume knowledge or awareness.
2. Get the order right.
3. Gender can obstruct understanding.
4. It's about the children.
5. How you define determines how you are received.

We are all subject to the power of language.
Words spell the difference between success and failure.
"It's not what you say--it's what people hear."

Beyond the realms of daily existence.

Searching an infinite Where,
Probing a bottomless When,
Dreamfully wandering,
Ceaselessly pondering,
What is the Wherefore of men:
Bartering life for a There,
Selling his soul for a Then,
Baffling obscurity,Conning futurity,
Usefulest, wisest of men!
Grasping the Present of Life,
Seizing a definite Now,
Labouring thornfully,
Banishing scornfully
Doubts of his Whither and How:
Spending his substance in Strife,
Working a practical How,
Letting obscurity
Rest on futurity,
Usefuler, wiser, I trow.

Sacred Geometry - the link between humans and the Divine

Nine: If we take the triune brain and apply the three types of processing to the three levels of the human energy system (physical, soul and spirit), we come up with a nine-fold matrix that represents the completion of the human experience.

The same three-by-three matrix symbolizes the nine houses of the Bagua (Feng Shui).

The final number in the Decad, Nine carries the energy of completion, the ultimate step before a new cycle begins with Ten.

Thus Nine is the most sacred, the highest perfection/order/balance, the holiest energy to which we can aspire – the horizon of endeavor.

In its aspect as the boundary between human consciousness and transcendence, Nine also symbolizes journeys and extremes. Nine years the Achaeans besieged Troy, and Odysseus spent a further nine on his journey back to Ithaca. Ceres searched nine days for her daughter Koré, who afterwards dwelt nine months per year in the Underworld.

Other Greek Nines include the Muses, and many other sacred families.

Any religion based upon the triple goddess also revered nines as the thrice-sacred number.

The Egyptian pantheon contained nine gods and goddesses, overseeing the “nine bows” of humanity.

Medieval Christianity recognized nine crowns of kingship, nine crosses, nine orders of angels and nine circles, gates and rivers of Hell.

We see this extended in the 99 Names of God, 99 beads of the Islamic rosary, Abraham’s 99 years before being called by God, etc.

Arithmetically, nines have many curious properties. Every multiple of nine reduces to nine when we add the digits together. Fractions of nine repeat single digits. Through the exposed remainders, casting out the nines reveals the essential characteristics of numbers.

Like the heptagon, nonagons are impossible to construct accurately through the vesica pisces.

We can approach the horizon, but it inevitably recedes from our reach.

However, an excellent approximation can be made through the star hexagon.

Even more significant than the nonagon is the Enneagram, symbol of the process of the principles of transformation. Most commonly seen in the personality types first developed by the Sufis and more recently presented by Naranja and Palmer. The Enneagram depicts processes, and also the route of transformation available to those seeking spiritual transform-ation.

By recognizing the strengths and weaknesses of a one’s particular character, conscious witness (and therefore change) becomes easier.

Through the process of the Enneagram, the soul walks a path that that combines seven (spiritual strength) and nine (completion) in search of evolving consciousness.

ARIES

Arians want to stand out from the crowd and have all the will to succeed. They are basically uncomplicated, direct in their approach and able to cope in a straightforward manner with the day to day problems of life. Their ability to see clearly the essential elements of important decisions is both enviable and convincing.

Light the way.

Committing Your Heart
"Your heart is now beating to a new rhythm.

This new rhythm creates a resonance, a vibration, that radiates the sound of silence outward from your centre.

This sound is the silent peace of God. This new resonance fills you up with Light - a Light unmistakably visible as it shines out through your eyes, is felt in your touch, and heard in your voice.

Each and every time your eyes connect with another, they will feel your love, your peace, your inner silence.

Without exception - through your eyes, your touch, your laughter, and your loving words of encouragement - you will affect the lives of all whom you choose to embrace with your presence.

This is the art and practice of true healing. The presence of one who has accepted their place in the world as a reflection of Infinite Divinity.

You think you have to perform massive feats of brilliance in order to change the world. Let me tell you...it is in the smallest acts of kindness toward yourselves and others that lives change in massive ways.

Imagine knowing that your loving presence brought about a chain reaction of healing, peace, and goodwill...even perhaps a miracle or two, which reverberated throughout the cosmos

causing stars to shoot in joy,
flowers to bloom in celebration,
food to grow in abundance,
guns to be laid down in surrender to peace,
tears to flow with forgiveness,
hearts to swell in gratitude,
children to be encircled with safety,
and suffering to be alleviated with compassion.

This is the powerful force of a single, simple soul aligned with Love.

This is your true purpose.

This is how you serve the whole - through your consciousness, through your Being, through your words, your touch, all that you are. This is what brings growth and awareness to others.

You are the Lighthouse now. You are the safe haven. Light the way. "

Cross My Heart

George Strait

Pure Country
Motion Picture Soundtrack

I Cross My Heart

Our love is unconditional
We knew it from the start
I see it in your eyes
You can feel it from my heart

From here on after
Let's stay the way we are right now
And share all the love and laughter
That a lifetime will allow

CHORUS:
I cross my heart
And promise to
Give all I've got to give
To make all your dreams come true
In all the world
You'll never find
A love as true as mine

You will always be the miracle
That makes my life complete
And as long as there's a breath in me
I'll make yours just as sweet

As we look into the future
It's as far as we can see
So let's make each tomorrow
Be the best that it can be

REPEAT CHORUS

And if along the way we find a day
It starts to storm
You've got the promise of my love
To keep you warm

In all the world
You'll never find
A love as true as mine

From De Rerum Virtute

I believe the first living cell
had echoes of the future in it
and felt direction
and the great animals
the deep green forest
and whale's track sea.

I believe this globed earth
not all by chance and fortune
brings forth her broods,
but feels and chooses.

And the galaxy, the firewheel on which we are pinned
the whirlwind of stars
in which our sun is one dust grain,
one electron,

this giant atom of the universe
is not blind force,
but fulfills its life, and intends its course.

The Vesica

The Vesica is an almond-shaped opening,
a vortex formed by two inter-penetrating circles.

A sacred communion and fusion is realized between the realms of Spirit and Matter;
a living vessel or womb nurturing and birthing Creation.

The chrysalis woven within the Vesica breaks open:
a new vision of life awakens & soars.
Two luminous wings
on either side of the solar eye-diskare
a timeless symbol expressing flight & liberation.
The translucent mirror of liquid light
is gently entered
and the Ancient Face of the ages
reflects Itself
within the tranquil lake of consciousness.
Upon dissolving
the shimmering illusion of appearance,
the opening third eye - the ajna chakra - clearly sees
the One in all. Infinity.
The Flower of Life, three over lapping circles can be viewed in 3 states:
*the one in process of becoming two - separation,
*the two in process of becoming one - unification and
*the two in process of becomming three - procreation.
